Pune: A woman allegedly suffering from mental illness jumped from the eleventh floor of a building along with her four year old son in Wakad Saturday, police said. Both were taken to hospital where they were declared dead. 

Komal Sanket Awate – Harishchandre (32) has been identifed as the victim woman. Her son has been identifed aa Vihan. The incident took place early morning around 5.30. Her in laws were fast asleep at that time, police said. After a postmortem, the police handed over dead bodies of the woman and her son to her family.

Awate was living with her husband in Texas in USA. On April 5, she returned to her home in Regalia Society in Wakad, the police said.

The woman got married in 2018 and was living with her husband since then.

Police suspect due to bout of illness, she held her son Vihan and jumped from the eleventh floor. Local residents and security personnel who heard the noise rushed to the spot and took them to the hospital.

"Her family has told us that she was undergoing treatment for a mental illness,” the police said.
