Two Sassoon Doctors Arrested In Porsche Case
Pune: IN yet another twist to the Pune's Porsche fatal accident case, two doctors from Government-run Sassoon General Hospital in Pune, have been arrested for allegedly tampering with the evidence.
The Pune police said the Sassoon doctors sent the blood samples of another person -- who had not consumed alcohol -- to the foresenic laboratory. The police said the 17 year old's original sample was dumped in a dustbin.
Dr Shrihari Halnor, who had taken the blood sample of the juvenile, was arrested on Sunday night.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said during interrogation, Dr Halnor revealed that he had changed the blood sample on the directives of Dr Ajay Taware, who heads the forensics department of the Sassoon hospital.
The two doctors have been charged with destruction of the evidence, conspiracy and forgery.
How it came to light
The first blood test of the minor was conducted at 11 am though he was taken to Sassoon Hospital at 9 am. The Forensic Science Laboratory report which came on the same day revealed that there was no alcohol in his blood.
The police which had meanwhile checked the CCTV footage of the pub where the minor had visited found that he was consuming liquor.
The Pune police then in the evening conducted another blood test at a different hospital. It also conducted his DNA tests. The DNA test revealed that the samples were of two different persons.
Though no alcohol was found in the second blood test of the minor, the Police Commissioner said it will make no difference to the case. ''We have lodged the case under Section 304 of the IPC whch is culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The juvenile was in full knowledge that his act would endanger lives....His consumption of alcohol or not consumption does not make any difference to the case,'' he said.
