Pune: A worrisome fact has come to the fore. Today, on June 12, two cholera patients were found in the Bhosari area of the city. According to the information, both have been infected with cholera due to the consumption of ill-treated water. Two patients are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Yashvantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital at Pimpri, whereas samples of three more patients have been sent to the laboratory for examination. Reports regarding them are yet to come.

The primary investigation revealed that both citizens who are infected with cholera are residents of Dhwade Vasti in Bhosari. Both citizens had taken a water connection from the water pipe of the water supply department of the Municipal Corporation adjacent to their house. However, due to a lack of precautions while connecting the tap, the water connection leaked. It is suspected that the two patients got infected with cholera due to the consumption of contaminated water supplies.

After learning about the incident, the Medical Department of the Municipal Corporation has given instructions to the Water Supply Department to conduct testing of the water supply in the Dhawade Vasti Area. Similarly, the medical department is also conducting a survey of people who are infected with infectious diseases in the Bhosari area.

The Health Medical Officer of the Municipal Corporation, Dr. Laxman Gofane, said that special precautions are being taken to prevent the number of patients from increasing. "We have immediately ordered a survey of people who are infected with cholera disease, and we are taking all the precautions to prevent the spread of diseases," Gofane said. He also appealed to people to boil their water before drinking it during the monsoon season.

Cholera is a waterborne disease caused by drinking contaminated water. With the onset of the monsoon, the chances of people being affected by cholera and other waterborne diseases are high, and hence, the Medical Department of the PCMC is advising people to take care of their health.
