Tree Plantation In Memory Of Ratan Tata At Smriti Van(Urban Forest)
Pune: A tree plantation event was held in memory of the late Ratan Tata on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 9:00 AM at 'Smriti Van', Warje Urban Forest (Ganpati Matha). This initiative was led by TERRE Policy Center, which works in the field of environmental conservation, with support from the Maharashtra Forest Department and Tata Motors.
Dr. Vinita Apte, founder of TERRE Policy Center, welcomed the attendees and shared the background of the project. "The Warje Urban Forest - Smriti Van project began in 2016 when TERRE Policy Center, with the help of Tata Motors, planted 4,000 native trees. Then-Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar took this project to not only a national but also an international level. In the next two years, TERRE Policy Center, with support from Tata and other organizations, planted more than 10,000 native trees here. Today, Warje urben Forest is one of the largest natural oxygen producers, and I attribute this success to our patrons Tata Motors and Prakash Javadekar. While we continued our efforts, Javadekar's close supervision was key to the growth and survival of this project. In tribute to Ratan Tata today, we symbolically planted coconut and 'Son Champa' trees," said Dr. Vinita Apte, founder and director of TERRE Policy Center.
All representatives of TERRE Policy Center, along with Rajabhau Barate and his colleagues, were present for the event, stated a press release.
