Pune: In a tragic incident this morning on June 18, three members of a family in Dapodi village, Daund Taluka, lost their lives after being electrocuted by a live power line. The victims, Sunil Devidas Bhalekar, his wife Adika Bhalekar, and their young son Parashuram Bhalekar, died around 7 a.m., casting a pall of grief over the village.
The accident occurred when Sunil Bhalekar, mistaking an electric wire for a clothesline, touched it while heading for a shower. The powerful shock proved fatal. His wife Adika and son Parashuram, witnessing the incident, rushed to save him but were also electrocuted.
Fortunately, Sunil's daughter, Vaishnavi, survived the horrific incident, as she was outside the house at the time. Despite her survival, the young girl now faces the immense sorrow of losing her entire immediate family.
This tragedy highlights the increased risk of accidents involving power lines, especially during the monsoon season when tree felling and wire breakages are more common. The community is in mourning, grappling with the sudden loss of the Bhalekar family.
The Deputy Chief Minister and Pune's Guardian Minister, Ajit Pawar, responded promptly by announcing an immediate ex-gratia grant of fifty thousand rupees for the bereaved family. In a message on 'X' (formerly Twitter), Pawar expressed his condolences: "It is unfortunate that three members of the Bhalekar family died due to electrocution in Dapodi, Daund Taluka of Pune. We share the grief of the Bhalekar family. I pay my respects to the deceased."
Pawar also announced that an urgent proposal has been sent to provide additional financial aid of twelve lakhs, with four lakhs allocated to each heir of the deceased. Furthermore, he has instructed the administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and to take strict action against those responsible.
