Pune: The hit-and-run cases in Maharashtra are showing no signs of ending. A recurring pattern of such incidents has caused panic among residents, and people are questioning the police administration's efficiency in maintaining law and order in the state.

When the Kalyaninagar Hit-and-Run case was still fresh in the people's minds, Pune was once again shocked on Sunday midnight when a speeding Innova car struck two police officials who were on night duty near Bopodi. In this accident, one police official died on the spot, whereas the other was admitted to Ruby Hospital for treatment.

According to the police information, the police constables of Khadki police station, Samadhan Koli and Sanjog Shinde, were patrolling on the Mumbai-Pune Highway. When two were going from their bike towards the Bopodi area, a speeding Innova car hit their bike from behind. Shockingly, the car driver absconded from the scene after the accident.

Two police officials were immediately admitted to Ruby Hospital for treatment. However, Constable Koli succumbed to his injuries and died before reaching the hospital. After getting information about the incident, senior police officials, including Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, rushed to Ruby Hospital. The commissioner has ordered a detailed investigation into the case and to check all the CCTV cameras in the area to detain the car driver.

On Sunday morning, a similar incident took place in the Worli area, where a married woman was killed after a fast BMW car hit a two-wheeler. In the morning, when a married couple was going on their bike, a speeding BMW car hit them from behind. After the collision, the woman fell on the bonnet of the car, but the car driver did not stop the car, and the woman died.

The car driver, Mihir Shah, is the son of the leader of CM Shinde's Shiv Sena. In this case, police have detained the accused's father and one more person who was there in the car, whereas the prime accused, Mihir Shah, is at large.
