Pune: In a shocking incident reminiscent of the Kalyaninagar Porsche car accident, a speeding vehicle struck a woman on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway yesterday, causing a stir but ultimately resulting in no legal action against the driver. The incident, captured on CCTV, took place at Bhujbal Chowk, within the jurisdiction of the Hinjewadi Police Station.
According to the police report, the accident occurred on Tuesday when a speeding car lost control near Bhujbal Chowk, Wakad. The driver, unable to manage the high speed, hit a woman, due to which she blew a short distance before the car crashed into a nearby shop. Despite the severity of the collision, the woman miraculously escaped without major injuries.
Surprisingly, the Hinjewadi police released the driver, citing the absence of a formal complaint from the victim or her family as the reason for not registering a case. The police stated that since no one came forward to file a complaint, they did not detain the driver.
This incident has once again put the spotlight on the Hinjewadi police, raising questions about their handling of traffic accidents. Citizens argue that the police should take a more proactive approach in such cases, especially considering the potential for serious harm. The parallels to the infamous Kalyaninagar Porsche accident, which dominated headlines for days, have only fuelled public scrutiny.
Local residents and road safety advocates are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and more accountability from the police. They argue that the absence of a complaint should not prevent authorities from taking necessary action against reckless drivers, particularly when there is clear evidence of dangerous driving.
