Pune: Even as rain has been pounding Pune district ferociously since yesterday.Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), one column of the Indian Army and multiple teams from the Fire Department have been deployed for Pune City and another for Pimpri-Chinchwad. The district administrstion and the civic officials have already sounded a red alert.

Following the incessant rain and discharge of water from dams, the district administration and municipal corporations of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations have told residents of flooding in low lying areas to move to safer areas.

The discharge from Pavana dam has been increased to 10,000 cusecs from 11 am on Sunday. Till yesterday, it was 5000 cusecs 

The Pune District officials said one column of the Indian Army comprising engineering and medical component is stationed at Ekta Nagar area on Sinhagad Road where there h flooding on July 25.

PCMC officials said the process of shifting residents from low lying areas was underway.
