Pune: Days after the kidnapping and brutal murder of 70-year-old government contractor, the Pune Rural police have arrested the prime accused in the case.

The deceased Vitthal Sakharam Polekar (70) lived in Polekar Wadi near Sinhagad Fort and had obtained a government contract to construct a road. 

Police Investigation had revealed that local historysheeter and gangster Yogesh aiias Babu Bhame (32)' had demanded Rs two crore or a Jaguar car so that he does not create any hindrance in the work. Bhame had threatened to eliminate Polekar and his son Prashant if his demand was not met.

On November 14, Polekar had stepped out for a morning walk. But did not return home. 

Polekar family then lodged a complaint. On November 16, pieces of a body were recovered from the reservoir of the Panshet dam. 

The forensic examination that included DNA analysis, confirmed that it was Polekar's. 

After this, the Pune Rural police had arrested Shubham Popat Sonavane (24) and Milind Devidas Thorat (24), both residents of Ahillyanagar and Bhame's younger brother Balu (24).

The prime accused Babu Bhame however remained at large. He however was nabbed while he coming towards Pune from Kolhapur two days back, police said.
