Pune Metro Service Hit As Over Head Cable Breaks
Pune: Pune Metro, which is carrying thousands of commuters every day from Pimpri-Chinchwad to Pune city and back, came to a standstill for nearly 40 minutes on Wednesday. The reason: overhead cable snapped.
It took officials nearly 40 minutes to repair the broken overhead cable. After which the services were restored to normal.
A spokesperson of Maha Metro Ltd, which has been running the Pune Metro service for two years, said such an incident had never happened in the past. ''Such breaking of overhead cable has not happened during the last two years of the Metro operations. Except for minor incidents which resulted in small delays, the Pune Metro operations have been running smoothly in Pune,'' the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, officials said the Metro operations were actually affected for 15 minutes. ''We operated the train service on single line till the overhead cable work was completed,'' officials said.
The Metro spokesperson said they have launched an investigation into the incident and will take necessary corrective steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
