Padma Bhushan Dr Vijay Bhatkar opens up ahead of receiving Punyabhushan Award

Pune- Technology is evolving rapidly and the lifestyle is also going through a overhaul accordingly. My journey in the information technology sector started from the creation of Param supercomputer and is witnessing artificial intelligence today. This entire journey is overwhelming and I am privileged to witness it. Even more missing links and knots in the science are going to be uncovered in the future, said veteran computer scientist Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijay Bhatkar. He was speaking at a special interaction session organised in his office on the occasion of being conferred the Punya Bhushan Award for his distinguished contribution in the field of computer science. The award, given by the Punyabhushan Foundation consecutively for the last 35 years and having earned reputation in the country as well as abroad, will be given to Dr. Bhatkar on Saturday July 20th 2024 at 6:00 p.m. by Infosys founder Padma vibhushan Narayan Murti. Founder president of the Punyabhushan Foundation Dr. Satish Desai was present at the occasion.

Dr. Bhatkar said that the expanse and depth of both science and spirituality are tremendous and it is absolutely impossible to reach to their core in one lifetime. When the computer revolution was emerging, it was feared that many youths will be rendered jobless. However, that fear proved to be baseless later as the computer revolution created many opportunities and options for the employment. The same fear is expressed now regarding AI but I am sure that this fear also will be proved baseless in the future. Advancement in every technology or science changes the form of jobs and present era should be considered as the area of job transformation.

Commenting on the current education system Dr Bhatkar said that the present education system is inadequate in creating a generation which is well equipped to face the future challenges. It is necessary to teach subjects like neutrono energy and AI to the future generation in their studies. I have always endeavoured to explore the future. The announcement of Punyabhushan Award brings delight for me as it is a stamp of acceptance from the Puneites for me. Pune has given many groups in various fields to me including those from spiritual and scientific arenas. Pune's name appears along with Benguluru with regard to information technology sector which is a mark of contribution of intelligence of the Puneites.
