Polls And Polarisation
By Ashish Wagh
Chant Jai Shree Ram and get free food, and if you don’t, get out of the queue to seek alms. A boy from the outnumbered splinter community intends marrying a upper class from the majority, pays for it with his would be wife’s life!! The boy is however free to live his life and get married atleast five times.
Saying a Hello or Namaste or the use of any other pleasantries has today become an invitation to be gotten rid of this world.
All the above present day unfortunate happenings used to be poles apart as lately as three decades when the ‘poles apart’ was put to use as “A Part of Polls” by the ruling parent party then.
Fathom this - “People, especially youth from Khadki become impotent when they have biryani at the enemy’s dhabas. This is the way the traitor community is trying to eliminate us,” said Adv Varsha Adhale from the ruling incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
One more example from not so very far away Taloja near Navi Mumbai. Residents of a housing society were manhandled and threatened of life threatening consequences by the Chairman of the society who happens to be a Muslim. Reason – the society flat owners, the Hindus, tried to decorate the apartment with sparkle.
Shocking but true, we as a society are subjected today to being polarised on religion, caste, creed and sex.
Mumbai riots in 1992 marked the beginning of polarisation for polls. The financial capital burnt. While reporting for a leading tabloid then, I personally witnessed how a trunk full of bangles from Kala Nagar, Bandra East, Mumbai, instigated a ‘shakha’ to either wear the bangles or remove a peaceful place like Tardeo from Mumbai’s map. Radhabai chawl in Jogeshwari East witnessed much worse. These well planned moves are now proving to be disastrous for the almost dead, ‘mashaal’ symbol party which Uddhav Thackeray claims to operate.
Such and many more unfortunate incidents can be spoken about, but the question is...Are You and Me doing all this hate mongering?
This lady Adhale who spoke about impotence and biryani has extended her brief by intruding on the outnumbered community’s existence .
“We get money from Kishan dada (age all of 17!!) everyday for our living expenses (includes tobacco, drugs, booze etc). 500 rupaye miltaat roj (in Marathi),” says a 15 year old Kirti alias Babu from Aundh gaon who adds the funding source for him and his gang of 40-50 youth. These youth are not interested in education or a normal life. The ‘respect’ they try to earn is by polarising other youth around them especially during polls.
Here, the most scary aspect is - Their allegiance and ethics are saleable when it comes to polls. “We have been promised of 2k per person per day for the forthcoming elections to work against the interests of the outnumbered. Special treatment (nullify a person!) are provided for extra fees. Our bosses have given us targets,” Kirti said emphatically.
The ‘underprivileged others’ are fence sitters who are hired for adding to destroying the poll process and thus the results.
There’s a hue and cry about why Hindus target Muslims or vice versa. The point is we, as a society, have become ignorant about generations being wasted and washed away because of the “Polls for Polarisation” heist.
As a former Chief Minister of Karnataka and a Central minister says, “We also are a private limited business like any other. Our targets are also measured and we are not spared from being demoted or deprived. Religion does not matter as long as our kitty is brimming up. Politics is a business Sir and we ensure, by hook or by crook, our win, be it polarising one religion against the other.”
