Pune, September 4, 2024: In a significant action, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has sealed 26 commercial properties in Chikhli, Kudalwadi, and Talwade areas by shutting off electricity and water supply after giving two notices to its owners about the lack of a fire prevention system in these establishments.
The incidences of blazing fire have been continuously reported in industrial and commercial establishments in the Pimpri Chinchwad city, which is causing great financial and human resource loss. Upon the investigation in this regard, the PCMC officials learnt that many commercial and industrial properties lack proper fire prevention measures. Also, it has been seen that dangerous substances are stored in these places.
On the background of repeated such incidences, the Fire Department of the Municipal Corporation conducted a fire prevention survey of the industrial and commercial properties in the city to prevent such incidents in the future.
After that, the PCMC officials gave the first notice to hazardous property owners in regard to the installation of firefighting systems considering the safe means of movement of people, storage of hazardous substances, and residential occupancy. Accordingly, some property owners then comply with the orders and install fire extinguishers.
However, even after serving the notice two times, some property owners did not take the issue of the fire prevention system seriously. Finally, the PCMC took serious action against such business owners and sealed their properties.
Deputy Commissioner of Fire Department Manoj Lonkar said that it is mandatory to take necessary fire prevention measures in the building, to keep them in operation, and to submit the certificate from the licensed organisation to the fire department. This is the responsibility of the building owner or occupant. The properties are being closed due to lack of measures taken by professionals.
