Pune: In a major breakthrough in the gangrape case of a 21 year old college student,

the Pune police on Friday arrested an accused in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed the arrest of the accused. When he addressed the mediain Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the programme held at the Shivajinagar police headquarters in Pune city today.

The 21 year old was by the youths on October 3. The woman and her 22-year-old friend, both college students who do not hail from Pune, had gone ti Bopdev Ghat area on a motorcycle around 11 pm.

The three accused came to the spot on their bikes and allegedly threatened the two youngsters. The accused allegedly tied the man up with a rope, dragged the woman to an isolated area and gang-raped her, police told Pune media.
