Pune: Nine workers sustained serious injuries when a slab collapsed during the construction of a hospital at the Ajinkya D.Y. Patil College of Engineering Campus in Charholi Budruk, Dighi. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 18th, around 7:30 p.m., prompting swift action by local authorities.

Police Constable Anil Ramchandra Shinde (age 36) lodged a complaint at Dighi Police Station, leading to a case being registered against Mohammad Abrar Alam, a contract carpenter, and Mohammad Rasheed Raja, a concrete contractor. Both individuals face charges under IPC sections 337, 338, and 34.

According to the police, the construction of a hospital within the Ajinkya D.Y. Patil University campus was ongoing when the incident occurred. The construction work on the building's front porch began on Tuesday. However, during the laying of the slab on the porch, insufficient support was provided to the underside of the slab, leading to its collapse.

The collapse resulted in nine workers being seriously injured. The police have attributed the accident to negligence on the part of the accused contractors. "The accident occurred due to a lack of proper support for the slab during its laying, leading to its collapse and subsequent injuries to the workers," stated a police spokesperson.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene to provide medical assistance to the injured workers, who were then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of the injured workers is being closely monitored, and the necessary medical care is being administered.

The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and to ensure accountability. The accused contractors are being questioned, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
