Pune: After consistently being targeted by the opposition over a lack of time for Amol Kolhe to give attention to people's needs in his constituency because of his artistic profession, the incumbent MP and Mahavikas Aghadi's candidate for Shirur Lok Sabha constituency, Dr. Amol Kolhe, decided to take a break from films for the next five years.
Dr. Amol Kolhe gave information about this through a video. In his short video, Kolhe expressed his decision not to act for the next five years because of his commitment to the questions of his constituency as a Member of Parliament.
Dr. Kolhe became a household name after he played the roles of historic figures like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Dr. Kolhe's television serial on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj got a good response, and this increased Dr. Kolhe's popularity among every household. This certainly helped him in his 2019 Lok Sabha election, where he defeated a three-time MP of Shirur Lok Sabha constituency and his current opponent, Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil.
In that election, Dr. Kolhe defeated Adhalrao by a margin of more than 50,000. But after that, much of the state's politics changed. Both parties from which Adhalrao and Kolhe contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election witnessed a split, and now both candidates are contesting the election under the banner of the Nationalist Congress Party.
Kolhe's opponents were constantly targeting him for his inability to reach the people while he was an MP. He has been constantly criticised for not devoting time to the constituency. This was made a propaganda issue by the opponents, who said that he was busy with acting. Opponents focused on this issue in the campaign. After that, Dr. Kolhe has taken a big decision on the face of elections.
In the short video, Dr. Amol Kolhe said that to give justice to his role as an MP, he decided not to act for the next five years. He said that his priority right now is to solve the problems of the people in Shirur constituency. In the video, he also asked for an apology from the people who gave him a lot of love as an actor.
