Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif Announced Separate Government Medical Cancer in Pune

Tejas Navale

Pune: Yesterday, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif informed the Legislative Assembly during Question Hour that the government is setting up an independent government cancer hospital in the Sassoon Hospital area. Hasan Mushrif was answering the question raised by Bhimrao Tapkir, an MLA of the BJP from the Khadakwasla assembly constituency. In this discussion, the leader of the opposition in the legislative assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, and other leaders such as Jayant Patil, Yashomati Thakur, Vishwajeet Kadam, etc. took part.

Mushrif said, "Bariatric surgery doctors have been made available in Sassoon Hospital. The number of doctors is sufficient for the treatment of newborn babies, and the number of beds in the intensive care unit will be increased." He further informed that, regarding the facilities and current situation in Sassoon, a meeting of all public representatives of Pune city will be organised and an inspection of the hospital will be done.

He told the assembly that the procedure for filling the vacant posts in medical colleges and hospitals is being done through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). So far, all the vacant posts in Group 'C' have been filled, and regarding the posts in Group 'D', the district collectors were given the authority to fill those posts on a contract basis.

"The authority to purchase medicines in medical college hospitals has been given to the principal. Therefore, if there is an urgent need for medicines, they are being procured locally," said Mushrif.

In the recent few months, Sassoon Hospital has been constantly in the news, all the more for bad incidents such as the Lalit Patil escape case from the hospital and the blood tampering case of the minor accused in the Pune car accident case, in which two doctors from Sassoon Hospital were found guilty. On this, all party-MLA's demanded the discussion on the functioning of the Sassoon Hospital. The speaker of the legislative assembly, Rahul Narvekar, instructed the government regarding it, and this demand was accepted by the government.
