Pune: A devastating fire erupted at a chemical godown in Shahapur Taluka, Thane district, yesterday evening around 5:50 p.m., engulfing the entire premises in flames. The incident occurred at Kalamgaom in Shahapur Taluka, resulting in the complete destruction of the Aishwarya Pro Limited company. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the blaze.

The fire, which originated at a plastic-producing company, quickly escalated, sending billowing smoke visible for miles around. The intensity of the flames spread to the nearby PCPE company, known for producing fibre tanks, causing extensive damage to its property as well.

Upon receiving the news of the fire, fire brigade teams from both Shahapur Taluka and Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation rushed to the scene in an attempt to extinguish the inferno. The company was primarily engaged in manufacturing plastic granules, contributing to the rapid spread of the fire. Firefighters faced significant challenges in controlling the blaze, compounded by the distance from Bhiwandi, making it difficult for fire brigade vehicles to reach the site.

The fire raged on unabated, eventually engulfing the entire company premises. Despite the company's operations running around the clock, a scheduled day off for workers prevented large-scale casualties. Notably, no casualties were reported in yesterday's incident.

A considerable workforce of over 250 individuals was employed at the company, with a significant proportion comprising local workers. With the major loss of the company, questions over these people's jobs have also arisen.
