Sub junior boys in semi finals; girls need win v/s Chhattisgarh to make final  

PUNE, 27th July 2024: Hockey Maharashtra worked themselves into the finals of both men and women categories in the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men West Zone Championship 2024 at Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), on Saturday.

Maharashtra men signed off their league engagements with a comprehensive 9-1 win over Chhatisgarh to log their fourth win. The highlight of the win was Gaurav Patil’s 4 goal effort which included converting three penalty corners.

The other scorers were, Santosh Birajdar and Arjun Hargude (2 goals each), Kartik Patare (1 goal),

As a result, Maharashtra finished with 12 points (4 wins, 1 loss) behind Hockey Madhya Pradesh. In the final Maharashtra plays Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.

The women, meanwhile, continued their unbeaten run and won their semifinal round 7-1 against Chhatisgarh Hockey Hockey. A four-goal effort by Khushi and a goal each by Sanika Mane, Sukanya Dhaware and Tanushree Kadu helped Maharashtra advance into the final.

In the final they play Hockey Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.

In the Sub Junior Championship 2024 at Surat (Gujarat), Maharashtra lost 0-6 to Hockey Madhya Pradesh in a late Friday encounter. The loss was the Sub Juniors first and are currently are 3rd in the standings with 9 points behind Madhya Pradesh (12 points) and Chhattisgarh (9 points).

Maharashtra play Chhatisgarh on Sunday, eyeing only victory to take them into the final else they play for the third place with the likelihood of fourth placed Rajasthan their opponents.

The Sub-Junior boys, who already made the semifinals by finishing in second place in Pool-A take on Chhatisgarh Hockey in the semifinals on Sunday as well
