Atleast 30 people have lost their lives, while 60 others have been injured after a stampede-like incident took place between 1-2 a.m at Mahakumbh mela being held in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, Mahakumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna said on Wednesday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered a judicial inquiry to find the reasons that led to the stampede. He said that a separate probe will also be done to look into police lapses.He also announced an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh each for the kin of the deceased.

Multiple casualities occured as stampede broke out at the Sangam in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj early Wednesday ( January 29) as crores of pilgrims  thronged the ghats for a holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and many Union Ministers, several Chief Ministers and Opposition leaders had offered their condolences to the victims and their families.
