Pune: The terror of the Koyata (machete) gang is on the rise in Pune. The nefariously named Koyta gang used a modus operandi of vandalising vehicles on the streets of Pune at midnight, instilling fear and terror amongst residents. Notably, despite the mounting problems of these syndicates, Pune Police has not been able to effectively curb the menace of Punekars from this Koyta Gang.
In the latest incident, the Koyta Gang once again inflicted a wave of terror in the Ganeshnagar area of Vadgaon Sheri. Yesterday, the group of four to five people vandalised 15 to 20 vehicles and cars in the midnight, including the cars of the police administration. After this incident, there is a fearful atmosphere among the residents of the area.
In the vandalised vehicles, there are 6 four-wheeler cars, 4 rickshaws, 3 two-wheelers, and other vehicles included. It is the second consecutive day that Puneites have witnessed vandalism in the area. The day before yesterday, a similar incident of vandalism took place in Kirkat Vadi on Sinhagad Road, damaging cars and vehicles parked on the road with machetes.
In the Kirkat Vadi, 10 to 15 individuals attempted to create terror amongst residents by brandishing sharp weapons in the air and by stone-pelting. In the stone-pelting by the accused, one man was seriously injured. Acting swiftly, Haveli police immediately detained nine perpetrators in this case, including a minor. Haveli police registered a case against all the accused under 307, 354, 323, 324, and 143 sections of the IPC at Haveli Police Station.
In yesterday's incident, Vadgaon Sheri police started an immediate investigation. They are scrutinising CCTV footage of the area and have formed a special team of Pune police to detain perpetrators.
