Khadakwasla dam filled up to 96 pc, discharge starts

Pune: Incessant rainfall has been reported for the past two days in Pune and in the catchment areas of the four reservoirs in the Khadakwasla chain of dams. The total storage in the four dams has reached over 60 pc while the Khadakwasla reservoir has been filled up to 96 pc of its storage capacity. 

Discharge of 2,000 cusecs was started at 3 am on Wednesday into the Mutha river. It was later increased to 4,708 cusecs at 6.30 am and 9,416 cusecs at 7 am. The total storage in Varasgaon, Panshet, Temghar and Khadakwasla dams at 6 am on Wednesday was 17.82 TMC, which was 61.12 pc.

The Irrigation Department appealed to citizens to not enter the riverbed as water discharge was started from early morning on Wednesday. It instructed people that they should remove cattle or any other material from the riverbed immediately. It also alerted people living along the river bank to take necessary precautions.

Rainfall in Pune for two consecutive days Intermittent rainfall began on Monday evening in the city. Normal life was disrupted partially in Pune and suburbs. Heavy showers were reported in the central parts. The rainfall reported in the past 24 hours: Chinchwad: 39 mm and Shivajinagar: 15.5 mm.

Rainfall was reported continuously for 24 hours for the first time this season.

Nimgiri: 58 mm, Lavasa: 134 mm, Chinchwad: 39.5 mm, Khed: 25.5 mm, Malin: 34.5 mm, NDA: 21 mm, Talegaon: 23 mm, Vadgaon Sheri: 14 mm, Rajgurunagar: 17 mm, Pashan: 12.2 mm, Dapodi: 13.5 mm, Hadapsar: 6.5 mm and Talegaon Dhamdhere: 7 mm.
