Pune: In response to a rising number of accidents and natural disasters within city limits, Joint Commissioner Chandrakant Indalkar has directed all department heads and regional offices to enhance safety protocols. Indalkar’s orders emphasise the installation of notice boards and barricades at potential disaster-prone locations, aiming to safeguard citizens and tourists.

The directive comes amid a series of monsoon-related accidents across the Pune district. Two days ago, five people from the family drowned in the Bhushi dam. In view of that, the Disaster Management Cell of the Collectorate has issued urgent instructions to implement immediate disaster prevention measures in vulnerable municipal areas.

Pimpri Chinchwad city, a popular monsoon tourism destination, sees visitors flocking to river ghats, bridges, lakes, dams, parks, and mines. Commissioner Indalkar highlighted the need for strict safety measures at these sites. He advised relevant departments and regional offices to pre-emptively install barricades and address hazards such as dangerous trees, potholes, precarious signboards, towers, buildings, and exposed electrical boxes and transformers.

"A disaster management plan has been prepared by the Municipal Corporation in anticipation of the monsoon," said Joint Commissioner Indalkar. He detailed the establishment of flood control rooms across all field offices and a central flood control room. Regular monitoring of the water levels in the Pavana, Mula, and Indrayani rivers is being conducted to mitigate flood risks.

Additionally, 'Emergency Response Teams' have been formed at all regional offices, operating around the clock. Commissioner Indalkar urged citizens to contact these teams in emergencies.
