Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that light to medium showers are likely to occur in various parts of Maharashtra.

Pune and its surroundings are witnessing light to medium rainfall for the past some days. However, heavy rain is still awaited. It is likely to rain for the next two-three days. The city is most likely to welcome the Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram, along with showers.

Light to medium rainfall is likely on Friday (June 28) at many places in Konkan, Pune, Satara, Amravati, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, Wardha and Bhandara districts. Other districts in the State may witness light to medium showers. Rainfall activity will increase in Konkan and Vidarbha in the next three days.

The State has received 189 mm as compared to average rainfall of 187 mm. The Pune division has received 109.30 pc of the average rainfall till date.

Meanwhile, the State received the average rainfall for the season. Till Thursday (June 27), 52 pc of seed-sowing has been done. In Latur division, speedy sowing has been accomplished after a good rainfall. However, sowing has been delayed in Konkan. Marathwada got bountiful rains. Therefore, the highest sowing has been completed in the region. Paddy plantation is likely to pick speed in Konkan next week after a good rainfall last week. There are adequate stocks of seeds and fertilizers across the State.  

The monsoon advanced further in many parts of the country. It covered entire Gujarat and the Arabian Sea, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and some parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It occupied most areas in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad. Conditions are favourable for the further advance of the monsoon in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. It will progress further in the remaining areas in a couple of days.
