Pune: Pune on Wednesday reported 35 new cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), an immunological nerve disorder, taking the count to 59, officials from the state health department said.

According to the public health department, the new cases reported include patients from Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural parts of the district, including Nanded Gaon, Nandoshi, Kirkitwadi, Dhayari, and Khadakwasla.

“Campylobacter bacteria enter the human body through contaminated food and water, triggering GBS," said Dr. Rahul Kulkarni, President of the Neurological Society of Pune.

"This disease is treatable with timely medical intervention, so there is no need for panic,” he added. He urged citizens to boil water and avoid consuming outside food.
