Pune: In a significant development, the properties owned by the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) are set to become freehold, providing relief to over one lakh property owners. This decision, announced by Industries Minister Uday Samant, aims to ensure that the state government and municipal corporation are not burdened by the transition.

The move addresses long-standing issues related to property conveyance deeds, particularly for 95 percent of stalled societies. Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge has been a vocal advocate for the freehold of PCNTDA properties, highlighting the difficulties faced by property owners due to complex bureaucratic processes.

"PCNTDA was established in 1972 to provide affordable housing to workers and economically weaker sections. However, the current system, with its 99-year agreements and complicated processes, has caused significant delays in property registrations and redevelopment," said MLA Landge during a legislative assembly discussion.

Landge emphasized the need for change, citing the exorbitant property transfer fees and the cumbersome heir registration process. "Property owners have been struggling without construction completion certificates, and disputes between landowners and developers have stalled redevelopment efforts," he added.

Industries Minister Samant assured that the transition to freehold properties would be handled efficiently. "Our priority is to ensure that the state government and municipal corporation are not burdened. Once that is confirmed, we will move forward with making these properties freehold," he said.

This decision is expected to resolve numerous issues faced by property owners, including the lack of conveyance deeds and challenges in registering property transactions. It will also facilitate redevelopment and provide a significant boost to the local economy.

"Despite their own income, citizens were facing unnecessary difficulties. This decision to make properties freehold will give relief to one lakh property owners and resolve the conveyance deed issue for 95 percent of societies," Landge stated, expressing gratitude to the Mahayuti government for their support on this matter
