Pune, September 18, 2024: After the late-night immersion of the five Manache Ganpati and Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati on Tuesday, the procession for other Ganpatis, including Akhil Mandai Mandal, Sharada Ganpati Mandal, and Bhausaheb Rangari Mandal, carried on into Wednesday morning. Despite over 22 hours passing since the start of these immersions, the enthusiasm and excitement among the public remained undiminished.
However, amid the fervent celebrations, many devotees were affected by the intense heat and overcrowding. According to information, more than 120 people received medical assistance for dehydration and dizziness during the immersion processions. In some incidents, a few individuals sustained injuries after being accidentally struck by drumsticks during Dhol performances.
To ensure swift medical attention and prevent chaos during the immersion procession, the administration had positioned emergency medical teams at strategic points along the procession routes. Medical officers attributed the health issues to the scorching sun and the overcrowded streets, which caused dehydration and fainting spells among several attendees.
Meanwhile, a tragic event unfolded in the Nira river basin in Indapur Taluka, where a young boy was drowned during Ganesh immersion. The boy, identified as Aniket Vinayak Kulkarni, drowned after misjudging the depth of the river at Shree Kshetra Nira Narsinghpur.
Local authorities, including the Tehsildar and the police inspector, promptly arrived at the scene and ordered the evacuation of the boy's body. Aniket was reportedly a student at a school focused on Vedic studies in Nira Narsinghpur.
