Municipal Commissioner Warns Ganesh Mandals Of Action If They Do Not Repair Dug-up Roads
Pune: Some Ganesh mandals dig holes in road to set up mandaps. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is receiving complaints about the issue. Mandals concerned are responsible for repair of such roads, failing which action could be taken against them, said Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale.
Bhosale was addressing the media on Tuesday (August 27). He said, “We are getting complaints from citizens about holes being dug on road to set up mandaps. It is mandals’ responsibility to repair such roads. If they neglect this, action can be taken against them. Permission given to erring mandals may be cancelled.”
Special drive to repair potholes
City roads are pothole-ridden due to the rainy season. Potholes repaired earlier have surfaced again. New potholes have come up in many areas. In this backdrop, the civic chief instructed the Road Department to conduct a special drive to repair roads.
The city has been receiving heavy rainfall for the past 4-5 days. Therefore, the patchwork done by the PMC has been damaged and roads have again developed craters. Bhosale directed officials to survey such roads and repair them as soon as rain takes a break.
Rajendra Bhosale said, “Roads in the city have developed potholes. A special drive will be conducted five days before Ganesh Chaturthi to repair potholes during a dry spell. A similar drive will be undertaken five days before the immersion procession. Roads will be completely repaired after the rainy season.”
