Man Killed On Expressway
Pune: A 36-year-old man was killed and two more were injured after a car in which they were travelling rammed into a military truck on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
Police have booked the driver of the Army truck on the charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
The accident occured around 7.30pm on October 27 near Gahunje on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. Police have identified the deceased as Prasad Nandkishor Kolte (36). Kolte’s mother Surekha (69) and cousin Prashant Rane (46) were injured in the accident, The Indian Express reported.
“Initial probe suggests that a military truck was in front of the car in which three persons were travelling. The military truck, which belongs to a defence establishment in Pune, came to a sudden halt. The car could not come to a sudden stop and rammed into the truck from behind,” said inspector Tejaswini Kadam, in-charge of Shirgaon Parandwadi police station.
“Kolte, who as per preliminary information, is an IT professional succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. His mother Surekha and his cousin Prashant Rane, who is a doctor, were also injured in the accident. Based on Rane’s complaint, we have registered a case against the driver of the military truck, whom we have identified. We are investigating how the truck came to a sudden halt on the expressway,” added inspector Kadam.
