Pune: The ruling Mahayuti secured a landslide victory on Saturday as votes were counted on Saturday.
The counting of the postal ballots started at 8 am with early trends confirming a significant lead for the ruling Mahayuti alliance on over 200 seats. The numbers have continued to remain in favour of the grouping with the party now set to win 236 seats out of 288. The majority mark in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly is 145, reported the Mint.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the alliance’s slogan “Ek hai toh safe hai” has become the great mantra of India and election verdict was a vote for stability and development. Slamming the Opposition, Modi said INDIA bloc did not understand that the people’s thought process had changed. “They don’t want to accept the truth and they underestimate the intelligence of voters. The voters don’t want instability, they want nation-first… they don’t like those who dream of kursi-first,” he said, the Indian Express reported.
