New Delhi: In a surprise move, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) big boss and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday proposed the name of senior party leader and minister Atishi as his successor. The decision was taken at the CM house after a discussion with all party MLAs.

“All the MLAs agreed to the CM’s choice. Atishi will now become the interim CM for the next five months until the Assembly polls are announced in Delhi,” the party spokesperson said.

The decision has taken many by surprise as it was widely believed that Mr Kejriwal's wife would be his successor.

Party sources said Mr Kejriwal had no option but to appoint Atishi as the new CM as the Supreme Court while granting him bail had prevented from visiting the secretariat.

After being released from Tihar jail, Mr Kejriwal had said that he will resign in two and he kept his word.
