Intraocular Implant And Refractive Surgery Convention Held
Pune: Dr. Shrikant Kelkar, the founder and senior ophthalmic surgeon of the National Institute of Ophthalmology in Pune, participated in 'Indian Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery Convention - 2024' for ophthalmologists from across the country.
This Convention was organized by the Indian Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India on July 6 and 7 at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai. On the first day of the conference, Dr. Kelkar chaired the discussion sessions and provided guidance.
The conference was attended by 4,000 ophthalmologists from across the country. Dr. Kelkar has previously served as the president of the Indian Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery Convention. The conference included sessions on new technologies, lectures, live surgeries, hands-on wet labs, and guidance from foreign experts.
"Knowledge about eye surgery and technology needs to be continuously updated. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and virtual reality will be useful in ophthalmology and eye surgery," informed Dr. Kelkar.
"Due to lifestyle changes, pollution, and excessive use of electronic devices, vision is being adversely affected, so eye care and awareness about eye health need to be raised. Eye health will become a topic of public awareness in the coming times," Dr. Kelkar also mentioned at the conference.
