Initiatives For Women Travelers By Kerala Tourism
Pune: The Kerala Tourism Department is taking significant steps to ensure the safety of women traveling in groups and solo female travelers visiting the state, informed Mr. Ashwin Kumar, Deputy Director of the Kerala Tourism Department. Mr. Ashwin Kumar was speaking at an event organized by the Kerala Tourism Department in Pune.
Mr. Ashwin Kumar added that to promote safe tourism, measures such as increasing security at tourist spots, installing CCTV cameras, and implementing 'tourism policing' are introduced. Additionally, there is an effort to provide basic facilities like accommodation, food, and travel plans specifically designed for women. Currently, 68 tourist locations are implementing these services. In the near future, we will also offer attractive trips planned exclusively for women travelers.
Mr. Ashwin Kumar also mentioned that there has been a significant increase in tourism in Kerala post the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of Maharashtrian tourists visiting Kerala has also seen a substantial rise, with seven lakh eighty thousand Maharashtrian tourists visiting the state in 2023, compared to nearly six lakh fifty thousand in 2022. Furthermore, in 2023, Kerala witnessed a record surge in the number of domestic tourists, with as many as two crore eighteen lakh seventy-one thousand people visiting the state. The number of international tourists was pegged at six lakh forty-nine thousand. As for the first quarter (January-March) of 2024, Kerala attracted fifty lakh thirty-seven thousand domestic tourists.
