Heavy vehicles partially banned on Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur road

By Sunita

Pimpri: Heavy vehicles have been banned on Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur road for three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police have announced this in view of frequent traffic congestion and accidents on the road. DCP (Traffic) Vishal Gaikwad issued an order in this regard.

Talegaon-Chakan and Chakan-Shikrapur National Highway 548D connects Mumbai and the Ranjangaon industrial area. It passes through Chakan-Talegaon Chowk. Pune-Nashik National Highway 60 also passes through this chowk, which is always teeming with light, commercial, passenger and heavy vehicles and pedestrians. Traffic snarls and fatal accidents often taken place in this area.

Therefore, the traffic police changed the timing of plying of heavy vehicles through the chowk to curb traffic jams and accidents. All heavy/medium vehicles coming from Shikrapur and going towards Talegaon and vice versa will be banned from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Decision after a review meeting

Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey reviewed the traffic scenario after visiting the Chakan area. He suggested 18 measures to solve bottlenecks. He suggested to ban heavy vehicles during peak hours. Later, DCP Vishal Gaikwad issued the directive. This is likely to solve traffic issues on the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur road.
