Pune:During the Lok Sabha elections, the government has expressed serious concern over the circulation of deep fake videos, clips, photos, and other misleading content on social and digital media platforms. Instructions have been issued to the Director General of Police to crack down on these deceptive practices.
Utilizing advanced techniques such as Photoshop, Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI), individuals create deep fake content that appears genuine but is actually manipulated or fabricated. This misuse of technology during elections poses a significant threat to the integrity of the electoral process.
Instances include the creation of false videos, audios, and photos targeting political candidates, parties, or election-related issues. Additionally, genuine content may be distorted or misrepresented, leading to misunderstandings or defamation.
The surge in such activities during election periods has prompted the government to take decisive action to ensure clean and transparent elections. Strict measures will be enforced against individuals found creating or disseminating deep fake content, in accordance with the law.
Instructions have been communicated to the Director General of Police by the State Government, and the Police Department will undertake necessary actions in response. Furthermore, the Election Commission has issued guidelines to combat misinformation and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
