Pimpri: A three-year-old girl died when an iron gate collapsed on her while she was playing with other children. The incident took place in Bopkhel on Wednesday (July 31).

The deceased has been identified as Girija Shinde. Her family stays at Ganesh Nagar in Bopkhel. She was playing with other neighbouring kids in the afternoon on the fateful day. She was running with another girl while holding her doll in her hand. At that moment, another child playing with her pushed an iron gate at the entrance of a building. However, the gate collapsed over Girija. Other children playing with her got frightened and ran home. They narrated the incident to their family members.

Some of them rushed to the spot and lifted the gate. They saw that Girija was lying motionless below the gate. She was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital but the doctors declared her dead on arrival. People in the neighbourhood expressed grief over the incident. A case was registered at the Dighi Police Station.
