Former NCP Corporator Vanraj Andekar Shot Dead, Culprits Flee

Pune: In one of most daring attacks, Vanraj Surayakant Andekar, a former corporator of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was gunned down in Nana Peth of Pune city area on Sunday night. The murder rattled Pune city.
After he was shot at, Andekar was rushed to the KEM hospital by his friends and relatives. But doctors declared him dead soon after he was admitted.
Vanraj was the son of gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar, police said.
Vanraj had won PMC elections in 2017 and had become a corporator from Nana Peth area. Police said Vanraj was a history sheeter.
A group attacked Andekar near the Doke Talim around 8.30 pm, pumping ffive bullets in home. Police said he was also hit sharp weapons. He collapsed in a pool of blood.
By the time teams of the Pune city police rushed to the spot, he was already taken to the hospital and assailants had fled.
The incident created lot of panic in Nana Peth and nsighbouring areas.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Sanjay Raut said the incident once again shows the growing criminal activity in Pune.
