Pune: On Tuesday, July 2, a tragic accident occurred on the Pune-Solapur highway, resulting in the deaths of five individuals on the spot. The victims, all residents of Telangana, had been visiting Mumbai for sightseeing when the accident took place.
According to police reports, the six individuals involved in the accident were Rafiq Kureshi, Irfan Patel, Mehbub Kureshi, Firoz Kureshi, Sayyid Amir, and one other person whose identity was not known. They were returning from Mumbai when their car driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash. The group had been enjoying their trip to Mumbai and were on their way back home when the incident happened.
The accident occurred due to the heavy rain that afternoon, which had caused water to accumulate on the road. The car, travelling at high speed, failed to predict the water-filled pit on the road, causing the driver to lose control. The car crashed heavily into the pit, flipped over multiple times, and collided with the cement embankment of a sewer near the service road. The impact of the crash left the car severely damaged.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Police Inspector Vinod Mahangde of the Bhigwan police, Highway Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Kurewad, Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Bhagwat Shinde, along with officers Dattatray Madane, Bhanudas Jagdale, Nitin Jagtap, and officials from the National Highway Authority, rushed to the scene to assist the victims.
Tragically, five of the car's occupants died on the spot due to the severity of the crash. A young man who was also in the car sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bhigwan.
