Pune: A businessman from Pimpri-Chinchwad opened fire without any reason. He has been arrested and remanded to police custody.

The incident happened in Mhalunge area which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad police on Saturday evening. The incident caused panic for some time till the police arrived on the scene. The accused had the licence to carry a gun, police said.

The police said the businessman who allegedly opened fire on the wall of a family restaurant in Mhalunge area. So no one was injured. The man was not mentally disturbed neither was there any provocation for him to behave in the manner in which he did, police sources said.

The accused has been identified as Balasaheb Vyankatrao Darade (41), resident of Susgaon in Mulshi. 

He has been booked under sections 110, 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Indian Arms Act.

The businessman, now an accused, went to the Hotel Image, a family restaurant alone on Friday night. He occupied AC room on the first floor of the hotel. He opened fire on the wall without any reason. We have arrested him, the police said.

He was produced before a holiday court which emanded the accused to police custody for one day.
