Boy Falls Into Mutha River While Watching Flood
Pune: A 12-year-old school boy fell into the Mutha river while he was watching the flooded river. The incident took place on Monday evening. Search for the boy was underway.
The boy fell from the bridge in Sadashiv Peth. There has been a lull in the rainfall for the past two days. However, the discharge from the Kadakwasla Dam has not reduced. Water continued to be released from the dam into the Mutha river on Sunday night too. Meanwhile, the boy was watching the flood from the bridge near the Poona Hospital when he fell into the river.
Witnesses said that he was around 12 year old. Two fire brigade teams were searching for him. The boy was carrying his school bag and was wearing a blue shirt.
Discharge to continue from the dam
The water storage in the four dams of the Khadakwasla chain was 24.95 TMC on Monday. The Panshet Reservoir has been filled to its capacity while the Varasgaon would also have 100 pc storage soon. Over 15,000 of water was releases from Panshet on Monday. The discharge from the Khadakwasla was increased to over 22,000 cusecs on Monday morning. The Mutha canal irrigation sub-division engineer alerted citizens downstream to take safety measures.
