BJP Leader Loses His Thumb In Machete Attack In Lohiyanagar

Pune: In startling information, a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) office bearer was assaulted by a few people in the Lohiyanagar area of Pune. In this regard, Khadak police have lodged a complaint against eight to nine individuals on the charges of attempted murder. Nagesh Dhavare, the brother of Akshay Dhavare, made a complaint to the Khadak police in this regard.
The assaulted individual has been identified as Akshay Datta Dhavare, a resident of Lohiyanagar, Ganj Peth, and a vice president of the BJP Youth Wing in the Kasba assembly constituency. The police booked Atul Khan, Salman, alias Balli Shaikh, and other six to seven individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the police information, Akshay was politically active in Lohiyanagar and the surrounding areas. He has been undertaking various social works in the area. Enraged by his increasing political stature and ambitions, the accused planned his murder plot. Accordingly, on Sunday, when Akshay and his friends were having tea in the Ekbote colony of Shankarsheth Rasta area, a few individuals came on their bikes and launched a scathing attack on Akshay.
By saying, 'Lohiyanagar me Masiha ban raha hai, aaj isko marna hai' (He is trying to become the saviour of Lohiyanagar; let's kill him), they also communally abused him. Following this, the attackers assaulted him with machetes and rods, causing injuries. In this attack, Akshay lost the thumb of his hand.
The police are reviewing the criminal records of the attackers and have initiated an investigation. According to the police, the attackers are repeat offenders and have multiple complaints filed against them at Khadak police station. The Assistant Police Commissioner, Macchindra Khande, is conducting further investigation into the case.
