BJP celebrates  Jammu & Kashmir  Victory In Style

THE BJP had a mixed Tuesday. While it won Haryana where it was not expected to win, it lost Jammu and Kashmir where it was eyeing a victory having abrogated Article 370 and controlled terrorism.

The BJP had to suffer the disappointment as it the National Congerence and Congress alliance secured 49 out of the 90 seats in Jammy and Kashimir. The NC did far much better than the Congress, winning as many as 42 assembly seats. The Congress could win only 6 seats and the CPM won one seat. The BJP had won 28 seats.

"Omar Abdullah Banega J&K Chief Minister," National Conference's big boss Farooq Abdullah told reporters.

Though disappointed Prime Minister Narendra Modi put on a brave face as he said he was proud of the BJP's performance. "I would like to thank the voters for placing their trust in us."

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held after 10 years. The BJP Government at the Centre had abrogated Article 370 in August 2019 which led to the division of the former state into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The elections in the J and K were held in three phases. It was first held on September 18, then on September 25 and and again on October 1.

The assembly elections for its 90 constituencies were held in three phases - September 18, September 25, and October 1 - after a gap of 10 years.

In 2014 assembly elections, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP formed coalition government with the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the honeymoon did not last long as the BJP withdrew from the alliance in 2018. After that the BJP government in Delhi put J and K under central rule.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, on Tuesday that the peaceful conclusion of the electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir rwas victory for the democratic spirit and highlights the resilience of the people of Union Territory.
