Pune: Pune has witnessed a surge in high-profile accident cases, with the latest tragedy occurring yesterday. In the latest incident, a car driven by the nephew of Khed Assembly Constituency MLA, Dileep Mohite-Patil, resulted in the death of a two-wheeler rider and severe injuries to another.

On Saturday night, Mayur Mohite-Patil, the nephew of Dileep Mohite-Patil, a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), was driving on the Pune-Nashik Highway. His car allegedly rammed into a two-wheeler from behind, killing the rider instantly and inflicting major injuries on others. The local citizens promptly informed the police, who rushed to the scene and transported the injured individual to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the two-wheeler driver succumbed to his injuries.

The police have lodged a complaint against Mayur Mohite-Patil. An investigation is underway to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. This incident has added to the growing list of high-profile accidents in Pune, stirring public concern about road safety.

Reacting to the incident, MLA Dileep Mohite-Patil stated, "This accident took place at night, and I do not have detailed information about how it occurred. We are fully cooperating with the police and assisting them in their investigation." He firmly denied allegations that his nephew was drunk, adding, "The police are investigating, but I am confident that he was not under the influence of alcohol. In fact, he voluntarily presented himself at the police station after the accident."

This accident follows closely on the heels of the recent Porsche car accident case, highlighting a troubling pattern of high-profile traffic incidents in Pune. The public is increasingly anxious about the perceived leniency and lack of accountability for those involved in such accidents.
