Pune: Sameer Roy Chaudhari (77) a retired supervisor from an automotive company, set out for his usual morning walk yesterday, unaware of the danger that awaited him at Parihar Chowk. As he approached the area, four inebriated individuals blocked his path, demanding money. When Chaudhari refused them the money, the assailants' rage turned violent. Armed with iron rods, they brutally attacked him, leaving him gravely injured.
Chaotic scenes unfolded as Chaudhari tried to defend himself against the onslaught. Despite his efforts, the blows proved too severe. Bystanders quickly called for an ambulance, but by the time Chaudhari reached the hospital, it was too late. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The assailants did not stop there. Fuelled by desperation and aggression, they continued their rampage. Shreyas Shetty, who was going for the job, became their next target. The group blocked Shetty's vehicle and demanded money. Finding nothing of value, they attacked him, injuring his left hand.
As Shetty ran to escape his life, the assailants chased him and also beat Ramshobit Kumar at Mangalam Construction, who came to Shetty's aid. Shetty's cries for help eventually drew a crowd, causing the attackers to flee—two on a bike and two in a rickshaw.
The brutal assault has left the Aundh area in shock. Senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner Amol Zende, Assistant Commissioner Aarti Bansode, and Senior Inspector Ajay Kulkarni, rushed to the scene to investigate.
Acting promptly, the police arrested three of the four suspects involved in the attack. The search for the fourth individual continues. The police informed that four individuals were engulfed in a drinking spree the whole night at Parihar Chowk. In the morning, they ran out of money and hence started blocking other people's roads and demanding money from them. The accused confessed that they attacked individuals under the influence of alcohol.
