Pune: Pune has been frequently in the news for a series of hit-and-run cases, and now, Pimpri Chinchwad is facing similar concerns. Yesterday, a speeding car struck a pedestrian woman in Waghere Colony, Pimpri, leaving her with severe injuries. Disturbingly, instead of assisting the injured woman, the driver fled the scene.

The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. in the Waghere Colony area. The Pimpri police have since arrested the driver, identified as Harish Jalindar Waghmare.

According to the police, the victim, a 55-year-old female teacher named Vijaya Nair, was on her way home after concluding her tuition classes. At that time, a speeding car approached and struck her with such force that she was thrown to the side of the road, resulting in significant injuries to her.

After the collision, the driver immediately absconded, leaving Nair without any assistance. Shockingly, when the Nair family went to the police station to lodge a complaint in this regard, relatives of Nair accused Pimpri police of delaying the registration of an FIR against the perpetrator.

On this, the senior police inspector of Pimpri Police Station, Ashok Kadlagh, said, "As soon as police got the information about the incident, police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into it. The accused was subsequently arrested, and police are conducting further investigation into the case.
