Pune, July 30, 2024:Yesterday, July 29, in the afternoon hours, a luxurious BMW car collided head-on with a school bus, causing injuries to three people, including two students and one car driver. This accident took place on the BRTS route near Auto Cluster.

In this accident, the car driver, who has been identified as Yash Arun Mittal (29), a resident of Bhel Chowk in Nigdi, has received serious injuries along with two students. The name of the school bus driver is Yogesh Eknath Khodke (28), and he lives in Phulenagar Colony, Alandi Road.

As per the information given by senior police inspector Ashok Kadlag, "Car driver Yash Mittal was driving his BMW car through the BRT route when the accident occurred. The school bus, which was also plying on the same route, belonged to the Poddar International School and was carrying 15 students.

After the accident, there were a huge number of people gathered at the accident site. People immediately pulled out the students who were trapped inside. Meanwhile, there were long queues of vehicles on the BRT route because of this accident.

After the accident, the issue of plying of private vehicles through the BRT route has again come to the fore. It has been frequently observed that private vehicles often travel at high speeds on the BRT route, which is designated for PMPML buses to strengthen and make public transport service more efficient. However, more frequently, private buses pass through it, sometimes obstructing the paths of PMPML buses.

Initially, wardens were appointed to prevent unauthorised vehicles, but due to unpaid contractor bills, their salaries were withheld, leading to the disappearance of wardens and security guards. Automatic barriers installed at some locations are also non-functional, resulting in private vehicles using the BRT route, leading to multiple accidents and fatalities.
