Heavy Rains Lead To Overflow At Bhushi Dam And Traffic Chaos In Lonavala
Tejas Navale
Pune: Torrential rains in Lonavala have led to the overflow of the famed Bhushi Dam, drawing large crowds of tourists to the area over the weekend. The continuous downpour for several days has caused significant water levels to rise, making the dam a popular attraction for visitors keen to experience the flowing water.
The heavy rainfall, which is expected to continue in Pune for the next four days, has transformed Lonavala into a bustling hub of tourist activity. On Saturday and Sunday, the influx of visitors from Mumbai and Pune led to overcrowding at the Bhushi Dam. Thousands of tourists flocked to the dam to enjoy the overflowing water. As a result, the area around the Bhushi Dam saw severe traffic congestion, prompting the local police to step in and manage the situation.
To alleviate the traffic jam, the police have implemented changes to the traffic flow in and around Lonavala. Despite these efforts, the surge in visitors and the arrival of numerous vehicles contributed to significant delays and disruptions in the city.
Meanwhile, in Pune, the intensity of rain has increased in the Ghat section, notably at Tamhini Ghat, a popular destination for monsoon tourism. Due to the hazardous conditions and recent accidents that resulted in two fatalities, the Tamhini Ghat has been temporarily closed to tourists. This precautionary measure will remain in effect until September 30, 2024, to ensure visitor safety.
