Gabbar Dhawan retires from cricket ground

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan, better known as Gabbar, today announced his retirement from cricket. Dhawan was out of contention for sometime now.

Dhawan made his India debut against Australia in 2010 from where he never looked back. He last played an international match Bangladesh in December 2022. He was good in all three formats of the game.

“It’s important to turn the page to move forward in life and that’s why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket,” the 38-year-old said in a video posted on social media.

“I’ve told myself ‘don’t feel sad that you won’t play for India anymore, but feel happy that you played for the country’.”

Dhawan scored 24 international hundreds.

Dhawan had made 85-ball hundred against Australia in a test match which was the knock to remember, said Raju Kotwal, a cricket coach.

Dhawan also captained India in several limited-overs series.

Former India opener and batting Virender Sehwag said,"Badhaai ho Shikkhi. Ever since the time you replaced me in Mohali, you didn’t look back and some top performances over the years. May you continue to have fun and live life to the fullest. Very best wishes always,” Sehwag wrote on X.
