First Quarter Sales Outpace Previous Year's Numbers Urban Homebuying; Mumbai, Pune Topped List

Pune: The trend of people purchasing homes in metropolitan cities is increasing, much like the previous year. Surprisingly, the statistics from the first three months of this new year exceeded the total number of houses bought by people compared to the same period last year. This year, a total of 1,20,640 houses have been sold in 8 major cities of the country in the first 3 months.

Notably, the government has received a staggering Rs 1,10,880 crore through this sale. The 'PropertyTiger.com Real Insight Residential January–March 2024 report' revealed a 41 percent increase in home sales this year compared to the same period last year.

As per the report, last year around 85,840 houses were sold in 8 major cities of the country during the period of 3 months from January to March. This year, that number increased to 1,20,640 houses. In the list of selling the most houses, Mumbai and Pune topped the list, with the combined sales of these cities reaching 65,700. Among these, the sale of houses in Mumbai is the highest, and 41,590 houses have been sold in Mumbai in the first 3 months.

Pune city is in second place on that list, with a total of 23,110 houses sold in Pune so far. Hyderabad (14,290), Ahmedabad (12,920), Bangalore (10,380), Delhi-NCR (10,060), Chennai (4,430), and Kolkata (3,860) are the next cities on the home sales list.

In terms of area, residential sales increased 63% to 162 million square feet from 99 million square feet. It is led by Delhi NCR (184%), followed by Hyderabad (128%), Ahmedabad (108%), Kolkata (49%), Bangalore (39%), Mumbai-MMR (26%), Pune (21%), and Chennai (16%).
