Earthquake Hits Taiwan, 10 Dead, Over 800 Injured
Pune: Around 10 people were killed and over 800 injured in Taiwan after it was hit by an earthquake on Wednesday morning (April 4, 2024). Taiwan is known to be a quake prone country.
The quake measured 7.2 magnitude on Richter scale. The US Geological Survey however said it measured 7.4. The quake was said to be the biggest in 25 years in Taiwan. After the quake, multiple shocks were experienced. One of them was said to be of 6.5 magnitude.
The epicentre of the quake was located about 18 km from Hualien County.
Taiwan, which is susceptible to quakes, is located close to Pacific ''Ring of Fire'' where a majority of quakes take place. Since 1980, Taiwan has registered 2000 earthquakes.
The Ring of Fire as it is known as is bascially a string of volcanoes and earthquake-sites which run along the Pacific Ocean and stretches to over 40,000 km. It runs through 15 countries.
